NFF Appoints Former Malian Coach Eric Chelle As Super Eagles Coach: Would He Cook?
Eric Chelle is a retired professional footballer with French nationality, but he represented Mali on the international stage. Chelle is known for his coaching roles with smaller French clubs before taking on a high-profile role with the Mali National Team. Coaching Career: 1. GS Consolat (2016–2017) Chelle began his managerial career as the head coach of GS Consolat, a lower-division French team, where he worked to improve the squad’s performance. 2. FC Martigues (2017–2021)helped the team gain some stability. 3. US Boulogne (2021) Sacked after disappointing results 4. Mali National Team (2022–2024) In 2022, Chelle took over the Mali National Team, where he aimed to guide them to success in AFCON 2023 and the World Cup qualifiers. Under his management, Mali reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, but his tenure ended after a disappointing draw against Madagascar in the World Cup qualifiers. Chelle is however known for providing a famous "meme material" after Mali lost to Ivory Coast in the quarter finals despite winning 1-0 in the beginning of the match Success and Failures: AFCON 2023 Quarterfinals: One of Chelle's key achievements was leading Mali to the quarterfinals of AFCON 2023, where they were knocked out by Ivory Coast. Despite their strong run, Mali lost 2-1 after leading 1-0 World Cup Qualifiers: Chelle's time with Mali came to an end after a draw with 10-man Madagascar in a crucial World Cup qualifier, which led to his dismissal. Tactical Approach and Formation. Chelle is known for his preference for attacking football, favoring a 4-3-1-2 formation over defense. I personally think this is one of the reasons Mali lost to Ivory Coast According to OwnGoalNigeria, these are the details of Chelle's contract: Eric Chelle contract details. A short-term contract that covers the World Cup qualifiers. The World Cup qualifiers ends in October, 2025 before the AFCON in December However, there will be playoffs which will end in March, 2026). 🎂🇳🇬Victor Osimhen Turns 26: From Napoli Disappointments to Galatasaray Glory
Victor Osimhen Turns 26: A Journey of Resilience and Triumph Today, we celebrate Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles superstar and Galatasaray hotshot, as he turns 26. Osimhen's journey has been one of resilience, rising above numerous challenges to establish himself as one of the finest forwards in world football. From his abrupt exit from Naples, where he was treated more like a pariah than a hero, to the disappointing way he was spoken of by Napoli’s management and coach, Osimhen has had his fair share of setbacks. Being left out of Napoli's Serie A squad was not the biggest issue—it was the lack of respect that followed his contract extension and eventual exit. However, Osimhen has bounced back stronger than ever, enjoying a stellar season with Galatasaray. With 12 goals and 5 assists in just 17 games, the striker is proving his doubters wrong and showing why he deserves to be rated among the very best. For those who ever labeled him a "one-season wonder," it's clear they haven't been watching football. Victor Osimhen’s consistency for both club and country speaks volumes. Victor Osimhen's Awards So Far FIFA U-17 World Cup All-Time Top Scorer African U-17 Golden Boot CAF Young Player of the Season (2015) Charleroi Player of the Season (2018/19) Lille Player of the Season (2019/20) Ligue 1 POTM (September 2019) Ligue 1 Best African Player (Prix Marc Vivien Foé, 2020) Serie A/AIC POTM (September 2021) Serie A/EA Sports POTM (March 2022) Serie A MVP Best U23 (2021/22) Best Foreign Athlete in Italy (2022) Serie A Top Scorer (2022/23) Serie A Best Striker (2022/23) African Player of the Year (2023) At just 26, Osimhen has achieved so much yet remains underrated by some. Looking ahead, I hope he continues his spectacular form for Galatasaray, wins the Europa League, and makes a big move to a top club—perhaps Arsenal or Chelsea, if they meet his deserved wages. As a Manchester United fan, I’d only want him at Old Trafford if the club fixes its issues; otherwise, I wouldn’t wish for him to endure the chaos there. Victor, as you celebrate your birthday, I wish you nothing but the absolute best. Cheers to more goals, trophies, and a fantastic career ahead. As a fan where would you like to see Osimhen After his Loan? Answers in the comment section

EAGLES STILL HIGH FLIERS
The prestigious African Cup of Nations is upon us. This is the 33rd edition of this biennal competition been hosted by Cameroon albeit belatedly– the last edition held in 2019 and Covid worries postponed the 2021 edition to this year. It has been a refreshingly surprising tournament for Nigerian team, called the Super Eagles, so far in the current stage– group stage. Nigeria surprised the world by trumping Egypt one nil. The context here is a Nigerian team that only just employed a caretaker coach in Augustine Eguavoen only few weeks before the competition, so his first competitive match was against Egypt. An Egypt coached by the respected former Madrid coach in Carlos Queiroz, and the team he has been building for years; this includes the English Premier League super star, Mohammed Salah and Arsenal's Mohammed Elneny. It was indeed a shock defeat for Egypt. Nigeria went ahead and spanked Sudan 3–1 in their next match to seal their qualification for the next round(round of 16). Today Nigeria plays their last group match against Guinea-Bissau. They have rightfully rested many of their starting eleven. Here is a list of the starting eleven: Uzoho Ebuehi Troost-Ekong Ajayi Collins Ndidi Nwakali Iheanacho Iwobi Sadiq Ejuke Observations: This squad above is not,so far away from the first team in terms of quality and should beat Guinea comfortably. Uzoho: He's the goalkeeper. With Guinea Bissau expected to throw the kitchen sink at the Super Eagles, it will be an excellent opportunity to see Uzoho’s net-minding credentials and benchmark it against that of Okoye, the usual goalkeeper. Ajayi: A centre back. Having lost his place to Akpoguma in the tail end of Rohr’s reign, Ajayi now has the chance to redeem himself with a convincing and compelling performance. Ebuehi: The right back. He needs to bring his Serie A and Super Eagles training sessions form to fore today to attempt to knock Excellent Aina into a cocked hat. He's expected to do well. Collins: The left back. With so much mystery shrouding his initial appearance in camp, nothing short of ‘A1’ deliveries and deft defending from him will satisfy Super Eagles fans. Nwakali: A midfielder. Finally, his much awaited start in Super Eagles colours (in a meaningful match) is here. He will have to replicate his 2018 performance against Atletico Madrid for many fans to treat him better than a grain of salt. So much is riding on Nwakali’s display today and he is such a player to deliver the goods when in his countries colours. Iwobi: Plays at right wing today. Having effectively lost his midfield slot to compatriot Aribo in this tournament, Iwobi will be keen to wrestle the right wing starting position off underwhelming Chukwueze. Sadiq Umar: The striker. It is last chance saloon for the Almeria man in this tournament. A tepid performance today may just see him gather dust on the Super Eagles benches for the remainder of the tournament (and perhaps adversely affect his long term Super Eagles status). Ejuke: The left winger. This is the position he is useful to eventhough he is right footed. Good to see him fielded there today. He is a dashing winger with so much skill. On the coach Eguavoen, eventhough it might seem a balsy move to introduce a whole 8 players in a historically significant potential record setting encounter for him as a Nigeria coach, this will nonetheless reveal whether there is strength in-depth in the Super Eagles. Cheers
